Proud of your boy: "Heroes Among Us"

Fantastic continuation of the Scott/Col. Truman plot. Although their relationship has definitely improved since "Ranger Red," I'm glad to see that Scott still has issues with the way his dad treated him all his life. The issue of Truman favoring Marcus over Scott for years isn't going to go away that quickly, and Truman really needed to give Scott some recognition and admit he was proud of him. Honestly, as much as he showed he cared about his son in "Ranger Red," he didn't admit he was proud.

Also, they've succeeded in making Gem likeable. I was glad to see that bouncy and boom-happy as he can be, Gem is capable of being sympathetic. Once Summer explained the situation to him, he suddenly felt terrible for bragging about his medal. I also liked how he was so willing to throw it away for Scott, and Scott told him that he did deserve it. Gem's also learning to follow Scott's lead and trust him, and it looks like a friendship may be possible between them now.

I think the best part was the end. Commander Murdoch opened Truman's eyes to see how much Scott deserved recognition as the leader of the Power Rangers and as a hero himself. But I liked that Scott turned down the Medal of Valor, arguing that he didn't deserve it this time--he was reckless, he abandoned his job to go off and emo in the wasteland, he put the city and his teammates at risk--he simply was not a hero. And he said that one day, he would gladly accept the medal, so long as he honestly deserved it this time. It was a nice thing to see, considering all too often the hero will be rewarded for doing the wrong thing and nobody questions it. This was very much in-character for the straight-laced Scott--as much as he craves and needs his dad's recognition, he can't let it get ahead of his duty as a soldier and a Ranger.

Other notes: They're definitely moving Dillon's quest to the background of the story now. Scott's discovery that there are other hybrids like him out there was a minor detail given out, coinciding with a flash of memory. It's big for Dillon, along with the discovery of more refugees (of course, none of them was his missing sister), but Judd Lynn seems determined to prove that Dillon's story can be told without him having to take the lead in every episode. It was nice to see that Summer was trying to help Scott the way she tries to help Dillon, but unfortunately, I wish we'd have seen more of those moments before "Blitz." They had a good setup with "The Road to Corinth" to make a background Summer/Scott to conflict with the growing Summer/Dillon, but they didn't do anything with it until mentioning out of the blue that Summer was also attracted to Scott in "Blitz" and was trying to decide between the two. People can complain about the Summer/Dillon ship, but throwing Scott into the mix for a triangle was really badly handled.

And finally, there should be no reasonable way for Scott to use his sword as a hoverboard/Galaxy Glider to use the Street Saber Strike and Cloud Hatchet against Venjix like that. Do I care? No.
