Agreed. Matt never had any reason to lose his original charm and take on the role of "BatMatt". Most of us could only make a guess that the writers took the idea of Matt wanting to be more helpful to the girls and it led him to become Shagon v.2 in Season 2. But instead of giving him transformation power, they decided to get rid of his own personalities. It was as if this is a complete different Matt from the beginning of the series. It's things like this that makes me missed the older issues, because they were more in depth with the characters and the stories than the recent ones these days.
