That's why I try to watch the director's cuts whenever possible. Things make more sense that way. But you can skip 'em when it comes to the episodes--they're only throwing in extraneous scenes in order to make more money on the DC version.
I liked him, and in watching the sub, I didn't see as much Ruki/Ryo, if only because there was a significant age gap between them (one young enough to be in elementary school, the other old enough to be in high school in America at least). But I'd done the research on him when he did his photobombing in 02, so I was prepared and actually kind of excited for his new cameo. Although, I will agree that he wasn't well introduced or explained--this is a sticking point with me in everything; if you need additional material in order to understand anything going on, it's bad storytelling.
