I like that kind of character only in two situations:
1. If you treat him like a joke or if he gets his comeuppance, or 2. If he's going to learn something and grow.
The first reason is why I can just tolerate Roy Harper/Arsenal in YJI, because everyone knows he's in the wrong and you kind of laugh at how bad he is at everything while raging at how he fucks everything up. The second is why I like Ren, Ryusei, and Zuko from Avatar--all three characters are very deeply flawed but learn from their mistakes. Even if some take longer than others.
I think all the horrible implications have really been keeping me from enjoying Kamishiro as much as I should. Again, it's a good concept, but I think it was their strongest card and played way too early. If they'd saved it, then yes, I would have been able to enjoy things a lot more without quite as much second-guessing.
At least with Smart Brain, part of their mission was "Holy shit, someone stole our belts! Better get them back--why the fuck do you keep stealing them back from us? Come on!"
I'm willing to give Black a chance if only because I'm a sucker for sibling plots. Which is part of the reason why the Kabuto subplot is such a huge disappointment.
Maybe when I've got time. I've got a hell of a watchlist to get through, and Kamen Rider is just the tip of the iceberg.
