Update: Kabuto
Aug. 10th, 2013 04:23 pmTen episodes in on Kabuto, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. Yeah, I see why people say to watch it for Kagami, since he really is a good character, but like I feel with Agito (there'll be a writeup when TVN's done with it and I've watched the whole thing and managed not to kill myself with a flash drive), you can't just say, "Watch it for the side characters/anyone who's not the title character." You must have a good and interesting title character. This was also my problem with Kuuga, which I'll get into more during Decade, and I'm starting to worry I'll have that problem in Hibiki.
Overall, Tendou doesn't piss me off as much as I thought he would when he kicked my ass all the damn time in Climax Heroes OOO, but I still want to smack him in the head all the time. He is more tolerable than Shoichi in Agito, but that's not saying much. There are some nice moments of humanization with him, but I feel like if they really want to make him a good character, they have to duct tape Juka and Hiyori to him. Otherwise he's Smug Assholeing it all over the place. The only way I haven't lost my temper with him and his Lens Flare of Jesus (which I've taken to dubbing the "Jesus Flare")? Picturing him as J from Go-Busters in human form and played totally straight. Like he wrote the script and everything. Also, Kagami is Ryuji. Jin is probably the director, who just got back from, like, 90 views of Star Trek '09.
We'll see how it goes. I'll try to check in in another 10 episodes.
