I have to cut another scene from my Zero fic. In this case, it's an overly long scene focusing on background characters that really doesn't move the plot forward and takes way too much time to start hinting at things that are needed for some of the background. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I do definitely need to cut it since I can't seem to cut it down or break it up in a way to keep it flowing naturally.
Canon characters: Taro, Ribut, Father of Ultra.
Time-frame: Some years (comparatively speaking, as Ultras are extremely long-lived, so it could be decades or centuries) after Zero's exile.
Naming notes: So while nothing is really revealed about how varied the Land of Light's culture is...it's a whole damn planet. I don't buy this whole monolithic culture that sci-fi pushes a lot of the time when it comes to other planets. And since canonically, we see that Ultras can have names from various cultures (Ribut and Tiga are both Malay names, there are a number of English names, some Japanese names, Italian, Greek, etc.) and Ribut's human form blends Malaysian design into the "traditional" Ultra clothing...screw it. I used South Asian, Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander names. Awan means "cloud" in Malay, Rimau means "tiger" in Malay, Sina is the Samoan name for the moon goddess and another heroine in mythology, and Malu is a dual reference to the airbending "ghost witch" from Avatar's card game as well as a culturally specific tattoo for Samoan women (I would imagine that this character has patterns on parts of her legs, similar to how Ultraman Regulos has tattoos on his arms). Arun is a Sanskrit name meaning "sun" or "dawn," which is common imagery for two entirely different characters' legacies: Seven (who refers to himself as the "setting sun" while Leo is the "sun rising tomorrow") and Taro (who named his son Taiga after a term meaning "a brave one who embraces the sun" and also apparently just left such an impression by being backlit by their artificial sun that Tregear was fucked up for life???I do not get Tregear).
