17. Try to be a little quieter when talking about your secret identity. Other people can hear you. You're lucky it was ANOTHER magical girl with a talking cat.

Also, we hit one of my all-time favorite episodes: where Usagi and Mamoru learn each other's identities and the Moon Princess is revealed.

Seriously, almost everything about this episode is perfect: Zoicite is one of my favorite villains just because he's such a tricky, smart little bastard, and he's so good at what he does that I'm willing to forgive his whining. Kunzite is great backup and keeps the plan on-track. Their plan is brilliant: hold Mamoru captive, convince him to give up his two Rainbow Crystals, and kill him and tell Queen Beryl it was an accident. When they capture Usagi too, it only helps their plan, since now they have a hostage.

Usagi and Mamoru's relationship finally gets to the point of them stopping hating each other. And it's because of Usagi's kindness, her greatest strength. She starts off picking on him, but when he doesn't rise to her bait, she starts to worry. Then she realizes he's bleeding and follows him all the way to Starlight Tower and argues with him. There are several times when she starts to realize he's Tuxedo Mask, but she remains in denial because she can't reconcile the memories of Mamoru picking on her with the memories of Tuxedo Mask cheering her on.

And when Zoicite is about to kill them, Usagi only hesitates momentarily before deciding to transform--which, if you've read my journal, you'll know is a trope I despise. Secret identities are great and all, but if people die because you're more committed to your identity than the people, fuck you. Usagi's hesitation is brief--just a few seconds--before she transforms and rescues Mamoru. And that is when Mamoru gains the courage to reveal his identity in front of her. As always with this show, it is Usagi, Sailor Moon, who is stronger than Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask.

Tuxedo Mask finally is able to protect her this time when he realizes that Zoicite has double-crossed him and has a massive crystal shard set to stab her from behind. He runs over and gets impaled, telling her not to cry as she cradles him. Her tears activate the Rainbow Crystals, and they merge with it, creating the Silver Crystal, which sets itself in the Moon Stick and reveals her as the Moon Princess. It's beautiful. The only thing that isn't perfect is the background music, since "Legendary Silver Crystal" is one of those really bizarre music choices--light jazz, again. I prefer DiC's use of the more mournful "My Only Love" myself, but whatever. Everything else still is spot-on, and the music doesn't completely detract from the experience.
