akinoameI really love Gai and Juggler's early dynamic--Gai says he's going to do something stupid, Juggler tells him not to do it, Gai does it anyway. He's a long-suffering partner, but he refuses to call himself Gai's friend. It's really great to see. Gai's still idealistic right now, while Juggler's already burnt out and scarred. And he doesn't deny it either; Micott asks if he was betrayed by a woman, and Juggler goes, "Not a woman." Then she suggests maybe Gai's the one who broke his heart, and he says, "No, that idiot's too stupid to betray anyone." And he admits that he's the one who betrayed himself--he knows that SOMETHING inside him caused the light to reject him, and that's what's made him so bitter. He refuses to take on students, even though Micott is willing to learn his sword style and Gai...well, Gai pesters him into advising him, which is probably the best way to go about it. He doesn't want to do the right thing, and Gai keeps dragging him along to do just that.
As for the background plots, I really like Amate and her struggle with trying to avoid becoming the War God and maintain peace on Kanon, but not knowing how to do that. Raigo's up to something, obviously, and Shinra seems like too obvious a patsy to be a traitor, so I'm curious what's going on there. But they all want to protect their world, so it's understandable, I guess. Amate's connection to Shohei is...well, confusing right now, if only because I'm not sure how otherwise Shoei and Yui connect to the overall plot, since they're on modern Earth and the rest of this is happening on other planets and in possibly other universes. We've got Ultraman Cosmos and Dyna coming in, which is great, if only because Gai needs actual teachers at this point--it's interesting seeing him fuck up all the time when I'm used to seeing him aceing everything right away in Orb proper. As for Psychi's actor, dear lord, this guy is loving his part. He's hamming it up with the best of them, and I'm glad to see that. He's a joy to watch.
