So this is a weird, but cute little show.

I'm six episodes in, but I get the feeling Ginga was at least considered as a miniseries only that length, if not outright planned that way. The Spark Dolls Theatre segment at the end certainly acts like it was the finale, even if it is a dissatisfying one, based on the lack of revelation.

For an 11 episode series, things are rushed a lot more than they ever were in the comparable-length Mega Monster Battle (though, to be fair, that show was more-or-less "high stakes Pokemon"). Tomoya Ichijouji is revealed as an antagonist in episode 5 and defeated in 6 and joins forces with Hikaru. Chigusa and Kenta kind of hang around and don't get a lot of development, even though there are good threads on how shaky their dreams are. Mizusu is fairly solid in terms of personality, but given the lack of things to really do with that many episodes, it's hard to gauge her. Same goes for Taro, although I cannot for the life of me figure out how someone who can teleport and use telekinesis manages to get himself trapped inside a birdcage for three episodes. Hikaru is a fun idiot, though. He's just nice enough that I'm not too annoyed by his boneheaded antics, but the words "Hikaru wtf" come out of my mouth at least once an episode.

Alien Valky, however, is a glorious idiot and I will miss him. The character is basically "Okay, I just had 30 Red Bulls and watched Deadpool 2 LET'S DO THIS!" I mean, if Ultraman had an English adaptation, I'd campaign for Ryan Reynolds as every Alien Valky, I'm just saying.

But, yeah. It's got hiccups, but so far, so good. Hopefully the next five episodes are a little more satisfying, to make this feel a little more rounded.
