Summary: The hardest part about Christmas shopping isn't trying to find something for Eiji. It's the fact that Ankh and Hina are both incredibly stubborn people left in a store without anyone to keep them from arguing.

So, fun story.

A few years back, I decided to make good on a promise I made to my Eiji muse, that he would finally have a nice fluffy fic after putting him through the wringer in "Kings and Vagabonds" and its sequels, including the plans for "Project Silver."

So I thought I would write a fic set at Christmas, about Eiji and Hina finally bringing Ankh back, and then Eiji being determined to just go out and have a good time with them, but all while dealing with the flu and them having to take care of him.

You can probably guess where this is going, right?

It was turning out great, but it was running past Christmas. I was 10 pages in, and I had other projects I wanted to work on, so I was like, "Okay, let me put this on hold for bit to work on the other thing, and then by next Christmas, I'll have a nice, long, fluffy fic that more than makes up for the horrible things I've put Eiji through over the years."

The year was 2019, going into 2020.

I have never had a fic just flat-out murdered quite like this. Suddenly, all motivation to write it was gone, and I knew it would never come back.

So now, I'm slowly trying to pick apart pieces to make up for it. And while this doesn't have quite enough Eiji to qualify as "fluff I owe Eiji," it is a start. And hilariously enough, the inspiration came from a pair of underwear I actually own, with a candy cane print.

To come up with Hina's outfit, I began with the idea of a bright, bold color. I had magenta in mind at first, but we all know that's Kamen Rider Decade's reserved color, so I began looking through different shades that would fall between purple and red really well. That led me to amaranth purple, matching with the amaranth flower, which turned out to be really appropriate, since Wikipedia says that the flower is associated with longevity, death, and immortality in Western culture, while also being used in the December celebrations of the Aztec sun/war god Huitzilopochtli, who is associated with hummingbirds and fire. This all fits really well with both Eiji and Ankh, so I thought it was a good way of showing Hina was in-between the both of them (although nobody tell Eiji that Huitzilopochtli's weapon is a turquoise snake).

I then searched color-hex.com for something to coordinate with it for the rest of the outfit, and came out with this palette by pinksweatshirtgirl that was perfect, and then I added the rose gold as a detail too (especially because it played a part in "Kings and Vagabonds").

I am not particularly good with fashion design, so the jumpsuit Hina designed was inspired by a combination of two existing ones: this one by Tash + Sophie from Sak's Off 5th and this by MSK from Macy's.

As far as the food, my family celebrates both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and although we're not Mexican, I remember my Latina grandmother having tamales out when she would do our big Christmas Eve dinner. I just had to be careful not to use just Latin American or Hispanic foods when creating Eiji's meal, because I really had to limit my search to anything that didn't contain Assbird's cousins, and unfortunately a lot of Christmas feasts incorporate turkey or the like. I did specifically want to include foods that had a strong flavor to them, like adobo or spicy tamales, because both Eiji and Ankh would appreciate the stronger flavors.

And finally, let me just say that it is nigh-impossible to write fluff with these three, because as soon as you add Ankh into the mix, everyone just wants to start arguing. I wouldn't have it any other way.
