Off my allergy pill: The Chronicle
Jan. 21st, 2020 08:56 pmA bit tongue-in-cheek, but that's probably what my face looks like right now considering how inflamed my sinuses feel right now.
So I'm getting allergy tested next week. This means I am off my usual allergy pill for 7 days. I also have to go off of benadryl for 5 days. While I'm allowed to keep taking my steroid nose spray, I've been on some kind of allergy pill for more than two-thirds of my life. So this whole "being off of them" thing is terrifying and unpleasant.
Day 1 was yesterday. There was still enough in my system that I wasn't too bad, but I noticed myself blowing my nose more and starting to sneeze when I normally wouldn't. Also woke up with a headache and congestion in half my face, but it cleared up. Energy levels were lower than normal, but I also had been extremely fatigued after getting off a terrible midnight shift Saturday (in that I woke up at 7 pm with a fever) and then decided it was a great idea to go with my parents to visit my baby sister because I could sleep in the car (spoiler: I really didn't sleep).
Day 2 was today. Did okay to start, although I was incredibly nauseous for some reason. But then I drove through a long, hazy stretch of road on my way home--it looked like smoke. And I've been bad since. Right now, I can feel my turbinates swelling, and I just had to call out sick for tomorrow afternoon because I'm in so much pain. I took one benadryl, since I'm still outside the 5 days, so I'm waiting until a little later to take another so I'll be sure I sleep (and hopefully with a minimum of pain).
I can't wait till this whole thing is over and I can get back on something again.
